INSTALLATION

1. Install Rhino 6
2. Download GL Studio
3. Double-click .rhi or .macrhi file for installation
4. Re-launch Rhino 6
5. Type "LatticeLoft" into Rhino command line
6. Enjoy!

BACKGROUND

GL Studio is a set of lattice generation tools developed by General Lattice to address the many difficulties associated with generating complex lattice structures. GL Studio is the result of several years of research and development aimed at achieving one goal, create an intuitive way to quickly model complex lattices that can interact with traditional solid/surface parts (BREP data).

OBJECTIVES

  1. Generate solid lattice bodies (BREP) that can be manipulated within Rhino
  2. Optimize workflow by enabling rapid iteration and exploration of multiple structures within the same design space
  3. Remove the pains of mesh errors and repairs by creating ready-to-print files from solid bodies
  4. Go directly from GL Studio to your slicer, by-passing the need for import/export to expensive mesh repair software

METHODOLOGY

  1. GL Studio is built on Nurbs-Voxel Modeling (NVM™)
  2. NVM™ works in five main stages:
    1. Generate a three-dimensional voxel grid
    2. Adjust and manipulate voxel grid
    3. Choose a base unit-cell geometry
    4. Map unit-cell to form lattice
    5. Thicken lattice structure
